Growing since 1944. Nicole Krautschun has owned the nursery for 24 years, and worked here long before then. We offer nursery and farmers market options to locals.

The original nursery in the Black Hills. In fact, most of the trees you see in Downtown Rapid City, and at the Rushmore Mall are from Beck’s. The state Capitol also has some of our trees. Some have said Alfred Beck was accredited with being the first person to put a tree or bush in a pot to be sold commercially in the region and is noted in the BHSU archives. Many businesses and fun facts find their roots from Becks. Gurney seeds founder was a friend of Alfred Beck and they originally gleaned their seeds from the Becks Nursery.

In late 1970s, Alfred had no children so gave stock to employees. Katie was an employee who had stock and was the only owner left at Alfred’s passing. Sharon and Nicole bought in together 23 years ago, and then 10 years ago Nicole became sole owner. The tradition of growing and caring for the locals continues today.
